I mean, I know Toyota is known for streamlined assembly, but that’s just, I don’t even know.

I mean, it’s a moot point, because why would you choose a color other than teal if teal is an option?

I’m not really buying a RAV4, I just wanted to know what the cheapest livable small SUV I could find would be.

I really wish we followed a different model for car sales. If I want a sunroof with the small engine and a manual transmission I should be able to have it. I mean, I get why automakers do it this way, but there should at least be a way to get the car you specifically want. Probably one of the better manufacturers for that is Ford. Most of the Japanese companies are very rigid, and bundle everything.

Do me a solid. If brown or tan leather is an option, and there’s the ability to choose the dashboard color, and one of those colors is brown or tan, please don’t restrict brown or tan leather to black dashboards. That’s just sick.

Yeah Ford lets quite a bit of stuff still be optional.

The problem is manufacturing. Makes it really hard to churn out a ton of vehicles if you have to keep making variations as drastic as a hole in the roof.

When you do manufacturing optimizations, you often have quirky little things like that pop up, and for the dumbest reasons. I would wager to guess that this is a result of supply timing from a sub-manufacturer. Whoever makes those Cargo tray liners probably ships them to the same distribution area at nearly the same time as the paint arrives (and half a million other parts). Then, due to Just In Time manufacturing requirements, every vehicle in that batch must have option group X, which includes the cargo tray liner. And due to a random quirk, that specific color Grey is only produced when option group X is in requirement.

This is the reason I’d have a had time picking colors if I was buying a new Ridgeline. The color I’d want would be green with tan leather interior, but you can’t get tan interior with the green. My second choice would be dark blue, but it’s not available on the trim I want. So to get the trim and interior color I want I’d have to go with a dad cherry red which is basically my last choice in color, before blk/wht/slvr which I don’t like because they aren’t colors.

Every brand does it now though. When I was a salemen! I remember a customer wanting a Grand Cherokee with a sunroof, but she didn’t want to pay 1200 dollars for the “Sun and Sound” package which gave you the sunroof, and an upgraded stereo. We ended up sending her GC out for an aftermarket sunroof which cost only 400 bucks.

My biggest pet peeve is my all black interior has tan pillars and a tan headliner. I can’t stand it and all manufacturers do it.

I ran across this when I was dealing with toyota’s build website. The guys at the dealership said the online configurator is geared towards what is in your local region. What is sitting on lots, what is being delivered and what is in the next production run. So some colors are locked into certain packages because that is what the dealers have and what the regions buys.

I wanted white on my Tacoma that I ordered, the configurator said I had to get to tonneau package. I could only order a Tacoma without the tonneau in blue.

Few months later, I couldn’t configure a Tacoma in blue without a tonneau but I could get it in white.

I don’t mind if the seats only area different color, but I have an irrational hatred of tan pillars and headliners. The F150s have a dark-ish grey that is also featured elsewhere in the cab, and I don’t hate it as much.

I hate brown colored woodgrain even more though.
